Watermelon Wednesday: Classic with a Modern Twist

Watermelon Wednesday

The classic fringe suede bag never fails to turn my head. Today’s lovely selection as found while wandering about on OASAP. The metallic embellishments on this particular bag add to it’s attractive qualities, though I find the placement of the zipper a bit odd, it still works well with the overall design. All in all I am quite taken with this crossbody & I may find myself with the bit of cash to order it (especially if my bank gives me back my money from a double charge relating to a totally different order, but I suppose that’s a potential story for another day).

Fantastical Friday: My Mommy

Fantastical FridayDragon clip art attribution link

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day, which I’m sure you all knew & I thought it might be nice to share with you what I got for my mommy this year. I have nothing but respect, admiration & love for my mother. Growing up we were always been poor & I mostly remember good times, we never went hungry & we were all pretty happy. I even remember getting a lot more at Christmas time than I see my youngest sister, nieces & nephews getting (not sure why or how it worked out that way, but somehow that is the case). Mom was mostly alone to raise us & there are 7 of us, so you can imagine how challenging it must have been for her. My mother is amazing, always a loving, supportive figure, who can give you a swift kick in the pants when you need it most. So I thought I would get her something she is likely to use, unlike last year’s disaster (I got her a handbag, but it so wasn’t her style, I mean it looked fine, but the arrangement of pockets just doesn’t work for her) & this year I got her a cross. I found this little pretty at Walmart.

The chain wasn’t long enough to suit her though, so I ended up ordering a longer chain, which came in a few days after Mother’s Day. This gift went over very well, so I actually managed to get her special day right this year, LOL. I hope you succeeded at making your mom feel special this year as well. 😉

Watermelon Wednesday: Sweet Ear Candy

Watermelon Wednesday

Today’s featured piece caught my eye while wandering about the Lane Bryant website. I always seem to be taken with designs that include the feathers, though it is less common for me to get pieces that include real feathers as cleaning the feathers themselves can be rather difficult. In this case I was also taken with the color pattern & the shape appeals to me as well. Their loveliness would coordinate well with numerous outfits I could put together & with the deep oranges & blues they make me think of summer. 😉

Magnificent Monday: Barbara Hershey

Magnificent Monday

This amazing actress caught my eye in many different movies & shows from horror to drama. The Right Stuff & The Entity were, perhaps, my earliest experiences of her work. Barbara actually began acting when she was 17, in 1965 & since that time she has accumulated numerous awards & nominations for her work. Her career did take a bit of a nosedive during the 6 year period that she was dating David Carradine, during which time she changed her name (briefly) & had a child. It’s also interesting to note that she was heavily criticized for the highly stigmatized act of breastfeeding her son on The Dick Cavett Show, because feeding babies is so unnatural it should only ever be done in the privacy of one’s own home (I haven’t actually seen any footage, so I don’t really know if she was trying to be ‘in your face’ with it, or if it was simply that her baby cried for food & she took care of motherly business). I was a little surprised after several hours of research to find that she has no noted charitable activities, which doesn’t mean that there is nothing she contributes to, as it could easily indicate that she does what she can quietly rather than highly publicly as some do.

Her jewelry selection is frequently very conservative, though she always seems to be wearing some lovely earrings. Most of today’s inspired wishlist are delicate ear adornments, but there are a few simple necklaces that are very similar to the one or two I have seen her wear. These selections were found on Amazon, which has a spectacular collection of pieces suitable for a wide array of occasions. 😉

Fantastical Friday: Nerdy DIY Thoughts

Fantastical Friday

In the course of fleshing out a character for a LARP expedition or prepping a cosplay idea for a convention it’s incredibly obvious that you or someone you are paying is going to have to produce the items you require. While I will not be doing a DIY today I am exploring some thoughts for LARP characters, as I roleplay far more frequently than I cosplay. I was wandering about on Panda Hall‘s site because I enjoy their wide variety of items more specifically meant for creating jewelry & other fantastical pieces. 😉 The second item in this listing will require a bit more effort should you choose to make jewelry or item embellishments (like for a bag, belt, etc) from them as they do not come with pre-drilled holes & are not readily in a setting (depending on your needs), but they still look like fun tokens for various enchantments or character history reminders. I’m especially fond of #3 as potions are so very handy for game play & they are nice & small to render them near at hand for use (like on a necklace, bracelet, hooked to a belt, etc). This particular site is also nice for their wholesale sets, so if your friends like what you did you can make them something similar too, or sell your concocted items to other enthusiasts. 😉

DIY Ideas1) Natural Crystal Pointed Pendants, with Platinum Tone Brass Wire ($1.96/2pc)
2) Arrow Head Dyed Natural Agate Cabochons, Mixed Color ($6.15/5pc)
3) Mini Cute Small Cork Stopper Glass Jar Glass Bottles, Decorative Storage Pendants ($10.19/200pc)
4) Stainless Steel Wing Pendants ($10.76/50pc)
5) Tibetan Style Alloy Pendants, Lead Free, Unicorn, Antique Silver ($15.37/about 650pc)
6) Dragon Alloy Acrylic Big Pendants, Antique Golden ($16.14/50pc)

Watermelon Wednesday: Layered Accent

Watermelon Wednesday

A good necklace can completely change the neckline of a blouse or it can make a lovely accent. It’s no secret that I love jewelry, cheap or fine, it doesn’t matter as long as the bauble fits into my sense of style (it also helps if it can be readily coordinated with my existing wardrobe & pieces). Layering necklaces are wonderful for the versatility they possess, but it’s also nice to have beautiful pieces that layer themselves for those times when I don’t want to devote my whole processor to figuring out what works best with my other selections. It might sometimes seem like lazy style, but many of these treasures are really amazing & should not be counted out. Today’s piece caught my eye as I wandered about the pages of Target & it’s on clearance, which means it won’t be around very much longer. 😉

Magnificent Monday: Mia Farrow

Magnificent Monday

This lovely actress began her career in the 60s & while Mia has not been as prolific as many of the women I have honored on Monday, she has made a noticeable impact with the roles she has chosen to grace the screen with, as her numerous awards speak volumes. I believe that I first noticed her as a voice actress when she voiced Amalthea in The Last Unicorn which came out in my early childhood. Being a major horror movie buff, Farrow really hit my radar in Rosemary’s Baby & yes, I am aware that it came out before the movie I mentioned prior, but no one shows a toddler such films so it’s natural that I saw The Last Unicorn first, lol. Like so many stars she is a champion of many causes, especially those that help children & the suffering. A powerfully maternal figure she has been mother to 14, though only 11 are still with us today it does paint a picture of a woman who is very committed to bettering the lives of the young.

Her jewelry selection is often spartan, but when she chooses to so accessorize it tends to be simple & elegant. I found a few beautiful pieces that, for the most part, fit that general description at TB Dress. As always when I present a list from this particular site, I always show full price, though I assure you, there is always a sale & this will not be the price that you pay, best to be pleasantly surprised. 😉

6) Full Rhinestone Spherical Shiny Earrings ($16)
7) Asymmetric Metal Circle and Ball Design Earrings ($12)
8) Double Pearls Design Diamante Earrings ($11)
9) Silver Rose Pendant Earrings ($15)
