Fantastical Friday: Happy New Year!

Fantastical FridayDragon clip art attribution link

I had a recent comment asking me to showcase some pearl, amethyst & jade & I thought it might be nice to ring in the new year with a few of those lovely treasures. There are three of each in today’s wishlist & I avoided all faux items for today’s post. Everything was found from various vendors at Amazon.com. Wishing everyone a wonderful new year & bright prospects in 2017, may it be more spectacular than 2016 for all. ❤

Pearls are particularly beautiful & among the very few biological gemstones coveted by humans. The tradition of gathering them is so ancient we will most likely never know what culture began the process. Before the advent of culturing, which began early in the last century, they were very rare & one of the most expensive items, which made their use pretty exclusive to the ruling class. As a side note, the first of my pearl selections is kitty themed, if you’ve been following me for a while, you might be aware that I have a lot of cats, so the shape appeals to me very much. 🙂

I love amethyst, it’s my favorite color & a gemstone I feel particularly close to. Ever since I was a child I have felt an affinity for this stone. It’s semi-precious & has been sought after since at least the time of the Ancient Greeks. The stone, like so many others, is thought to have a variety of metaphysical qualities, in ancient times it was believed to ward of drunkenness & was considered a desirable material for drinking vessels.

Jade, so associated with Chinese mysticism & thoroughly entwined with their culture. It may surprise some of you to learn that it actually comes in a wide variety of colors, with a translucent emerald green is the most highly regarded & the most expensive form, for a long time it was reserved only for for the Chinese Imperial family (hence the name imperial jade).

Watermelon Wednesday: Undeniable

Watermelon Wednesday

Accessories can make or break any outfit, making them memorable for whatever reason, lol. In all honesty I am more of an accessory fan than clothing, because mixing & matching the little things can make the same old outfit a very different experience. You don’t have to have a huge wardrobe if you can dress up what you have in different ways. I imagine, at this point, you’ve realized that my accessory collection far outweighs my modest collection of fashionable clothing. Certain I am not alone in this, I feel that many women use this style hack (if it could even be called that, LOL). While this post is not as long & rambling as my previous Watermelon Wednesdays, I’m sure that you appreciate the break from my overly casual musings & memories. 😉 I found this lovely scarf at Lane Bryant, as I always seem to find something epic whenever I browse their collections, though I do note that you often have to invest in that style (in case you’re wondering that was a note about their prices being a little higher than many of the other places I frequently enjoy shopping).

Watermelon Wednesday: Charming

Watermelon Wednesday

I know we’ve all felt it at some time, perhaps to varying degrees, a moment of fixation. My mind is especially prone to fascination, often times over the simplest of things. When I was a little girl certain items were just magical, like finding an old key, didn’t matter that there was nothing for it to fit to, the entire concept of the key was mystical & likely to be something my toddler self would take to enshrine in a drawer in my room. Years ago I accidentally left my driver’s license in a fitting room & when I returned to the shop hours later, as I had discovered my accident, it was nowhere to be found. I couldn’t help but think that maybe a small child had picked it up & claimed it as a holy relic, as I might have at a similar age. Some of the little thoughts that run through our minds on occasion can be funny like that, almost wistful even. For me these little fixations still come upon me at times, not that I pocket these things anymore as I have grown some self-restraint & discipline since I was toddling about, but some things just somehow hold sway over my attention so completely. It’s almost as if I failed my saving throw as a charm spell fell over me, lol. Those of you who have been following me for a while may have noticed that I am drawn to turquoise, so many of the pieces crafted with it & even the raw stones themselves have this sway over me. I was window shopping at Target the other day & found this lovely necklace that has been on my mind, here & there, since I spied it (I believe I have displayed similar pieces before, maybe even the same one, LOL).

Watermelon Wednesday: This & That

Watermelon Wednesday

When I was a a little girl I had a tendency to rebel against everything that was considered girlie, I honestly felt stifled by the expected role that many of the older members of my family & society at large had already decided for me. I hated that my beloved Grammy would give me dolls every Christmas, dolls I kept telling her I had zero interest in. Even when I became a teen & demanded a Guns ‘N Roses t-shirt for the holiday, she did send me one, but she also gave a copy of the same shirt, a Led Zeppelin & another cool band shirt I don’t at the moment recall to my older brother. He didn’t ask for them & in fact the 1 shirt I asked for was all that I received from her that year, not that I mind getting a single present, but why in the world would she not only gift the exact same item to my brother, but bestow upon him even more epic shirts as well. So, refusing to wear dresses, bows & ribbons for a long time seemed to cause a certain amount of unintended distancing between me & some of my loved ones. Some of this rebellion continues in me today, I like the look of some purses, but frequently I do not use them, from my teen years to now I have been a backpack girl. When I first started carrying a backpack with me everywhere there were none with a purse like design in existence, I wore out so many school style & small hiking backpacks which were never designed for continuous & constant use I can’t even tell you how much it cost me over time, LOL. As I began to come into my own as an adult the age of the backpack purse was just beginning, my first designed in this way was a gift from my father on my birthday. It was dark brown leather (probably faux) with beautiful stitch detailing. I loved that bag & it took me years to wear it out, unlike the inferior daily use ones that only lasted a few months of my tomboyish lifestyle. Despite being drawn to some more “traditional” bags I find them cumbersome & continue using the backpack style I have always favored. While at the moment I keep a black faux leather pack for work & a much more playful (also larger) bag for my personal time I do wish to continue collecting various styles that will complement my outfit choices differently over time. So today I found a beautiful bag that I quite like from Jolly Chic to highlight for you today. 😉 The description does indicate that it’s meant for school use, but the look of the product is more purse like in style & has a definite feminine flair.

Magnificent Monday: Phobe Cates

Magnificent Monday

She first came to my attention when she was in Gremlins in 1984. I still love that movie to this day, it’s hilarious & creepy at the same time, LOL. Perhaps her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a little more iconic, I will always think of Gremlins in connection with her. Sure, her career in film is not as extensive as so many others, but she has definitely made a mark in my heart for the work she has done.

Phoebe Cates(Pics found in Google image search)

I like that Phoebe doesn’t feel the need to wear super expensive jewelry to complement her style. It seems that so many stars measure their status by how much money they can display with each ensemble. You don’t have to be made of money to look amazing. 😉 I found a few items from Tidebuy that inspire thoughts of this beautiful actress. As always when I highlight this shop I have listed full price for each item, this site runs sales all the time & when I checked these out none were more than $20, it’s not likely that you’ll have to pay the price listed here. I hope you all have an amazing week!

Fantastical Friday: Sticky Fingers

Fantastical FridayDragon clip art attribution link

I had an entirely different post planned, it was even written, but the shop I was promoting decided to drop me. They invited me to affiliate with them, my blog hasn’t really changed in that time, but suddenly I wasn’t good enough for them. Somewhat related, my wedding dress, the event being planned for Halloween, has already been supplied by them (not free, I bought it). Perhaps they would have felt differently had I remembered to use my affiliate link to place my, around $125, order. While I do sometimes promote shops & items that do not come from my affiliate programs, this particular store has trampled my toes into mush, I won’t post about them until I get more in depth about my coming special day costuming. So anyway, instead of the costume for the character I had planned I’m showcasing some loot worthy pieces the planned character would have liked to lift. All the items in this post come from Billy The Tree, a company I have worked with for a while. This time I have chosen to focus on wrist candy as I feel that it has been a very long time since I have done this.

Target Jewelry Staples

This time I have put together a few jewelry style staples from Target. I found some great things while surfing around their website & soon I will be ordering a few items, that are not on this list, as for some reason I did not include ear cuffs, for one of my younger nieces. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail on that as there is a very, very small chance she will read about it before her present arrives. As a Target affiliate I have to be sure that you understand following my links to do your shopping will earn me a commission on those sales. I hope you enjoy this list of treasures as much as I do 🙂

Boho with the Dominique Necklace

Okay, well I admit it, the skirt adds a bit of steampunk flavor. I put this ensemble with only 1 of my jewelry pieces, going for a touch of minimalism & again I went with some favorite selections from The Pyramid Collection, because I love their eclectic clothing.
